Day Camp DetailsWhere: Schoenwald Park is located at 16030 Sylvester Road SW in Burien, Washington. Here is a link to maps and directions, and here are links to the 121 bus route and schedule and the 131 and 134 bus route and schedule.
Camp starts promptly each day at 9am. Please allow extra time on the first day for check-in and orientation. The schedule on Friday includes an egg drop activity as well as Den skits at the end of the day. This is a great time for parents to check out what their Scouts have been doing all week.
Refunds: A 50% refund of fees paid may be issued in the case of accident, illness, or extreme extenuating circumstances, if requested in writing at least 15 days prior to the event. Within two weeks of the event and following, no refunds will be made available. Refunds will not be made at camp. What to Wear: All Tiger, Cub, and Webelos Scouts, as well as adult volunteers will receive a camp t-shirt to wear at camp. The camp t-shirt will be the official uniform during day camp. Cub and Webelos Scouts should not wear their regular Scout uniforms to day camp. Boy Scouts and Venturing Scouts are expected to be in Class A uniforms. Please wear shorts or pants with shoes and socks (no sandals). Dress for the weather! If the forecast calls for rain, please send along a rain jacket with a hood as we will not be indoors. What to Bring: A printed, completed, and signed Registration & Health History form must be turned in on or before the first day of camp. Pack a lunch and a filled water bottle every day since food will not be served at camp. Please, no glass containers as they break easily. Names should be clearly marked on all personal items. Make sure you apply sunscreen before you come to camp. Do not bring pocket knives, fire starters, or electronic devices (video games, music players, etc.) to camp. Please DO bring a smile and a great Scout attitude! Supervision & Medical: The Boy Scouts of America requires a minimum of two adults on all trips and outings (two deep leadership). All participants, youth, and adults must complete the Health History (Class One) and Day Camp Registration form. Submit these forms along with your fee payment. Program Support: Packs MUST provide at least 1 adult staff member to assist with day camp each day for every 5 Scouts attending camp (minimum 2 adults per Pack). This is a really fun way to spend some time with your son and you'll remember your camp experiences for the rest of your lives. Our camp is entirely volunteer run which is why the fees are inexpensive, so please consult your Pack's day camp coordinator for your specific adult staffing requirements. There are pre-planning worksheets available for Pack day camp coordinators to help in determining the proper ratio of adults to boys. How You Can Help: Take a day off and spend it with your son! You can help lead your son and his Den throughout the day, guiding them through various activities, projects, and games. Or, you could run an activity center, helping all of the campers learn a skill, complete a project, or gain valuable knowledge. It is a fun and satisfying experience that is well worth your time investment. Camp Service Project: Adults and Scouts from all Aquila Packs can get involved in a camp service project from 12 to 3pm on Saturday, July 17th. This year we will be cleaning up the grounds, so our camp will look great. Please bring gloves and gardening equipment (rakes, weed pullers, clippers, lawn mowers, etc.) if you have them. This is our chance to Do a Good Turn and give back to the Kiwanis who let us use Schoenwald Park, and any hours you spend on this project can be included in your Pack's Good Turn for America and Community service hours. Orientation: We will offer day camp orientation and training to all adults participating as den guides and staff. It is essential that every participating adult in your Pack attend one of these orientation sessions, if they have not attended day camp training within the last year. It simply is not possible to train volunteers in the morning before camp begins (15 minutes). A training session will be offered on July 12th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, July 15th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, or July 17th from 10am to 12pm at Schoenwald Park. At this orientation we will cover the camp schedule, activities, and safety, and leader responsibilities, as well as take a walking tour of the camp. Youth Protection Training is also required for all adult leaders, and there is an excellent training course for this topic online at https://scoutnet.scouting.org/elearning/. It is an excellent training which can be taken in the comfort of your home or office and at your convenience, and as an added bonus, this counts as training for your Pack or Troop. Be sure to print out your certificate once you complete the training and bring it with you to the orientation/training. Like day camp training, Youth Protection Training must be renewed every two years. Day Care: On the day(s) you volunteer at camp, your Scout's siblings may join the Tag-along Den, which has a separate program designed especially for younger children and consisting primarily of crafts, stories, songs, recreation and special events. This service is free. All Tag-along campers are required to be potty trained, and each Tag-along camper must be registered for camp and bring the same gear as other participants (noted above). |
